Blubber Experiment and small groups

This week in small groups we are:

  Counting  using tweezers to move "snowballs"

Finding the letter our name starts with

and......

Using wiki sticks to form letters

Last Thursday and Friday we did this experiment...

Blubber Experiment

 step 1- put your hands in ice water   brrrrr.

step 2- cover your hands in blubber (crisco)

step 3- put your hands back in ice water

What did we learn? God takes such good care of the arctic animals by giving them a layer of fat called blubber to keep them warm in the icy water.

More penguin fun

The 3's class enjoyed some more penguin fun last week.

 We "waddled" like penguins.

On Friday, we melted ice to free our trapped penguins. We used different materials from the center to try to melt the ice. We discovered that salt and hot chocolate worked the best. (Sunscreen and crayons, definitely did not work!)

This week in our small groups we will do an activity with hibernation and get some practice using scissors. I will be sending home a blue strip of paper with lines. Feel free to work with your child on cutting those lines.

Penguin Fun

This week in the 3's we have been talking about penguins.
 We have read penguin books and learned penguin songs. One of the activities the class enjoyed was sliding on our bellies just the penguins!

We also have been measuring ourselves to see if we are taller than an emperor penguin (36 inches on average).
